PRERNA Social Development and Welfare Society is registered under Societies Registration Act – XXI of 1860. Our organization is a non-profit voluntary organization, engaged in social activities.

Our main objective is to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged and marginalized people. We are determined to replace their despair with hope, their fear with security, and their ignorance with knowledge.

PRERNA is running six centers by providing non-formal education based on SCERT in the administrate part of the capital, South Delhi namely, Bhatti Mines, Rajpur Khurd and Gautam Puri. The uniqueness of this area is that there is one Government School in each area, running under minimum facilities. The so-called private schools are out of reach for these children. Most of the children are engaged in domestic works for breadwinning. So the majority of the child population, girls are encouraged to engage in domestic works rather than education

Workshop / Capacity Building

Under privilege children are involved in various occupations like – begging, vending, rickshaw pulling, casual labour and rag picking etc. They have to go through a lot of exploitation and harassment at the hands of their employers, police, local goons and general public. Consequently, they develop low self esteem, have lack of confidence which may further lead them into bad habits like stealing, drug abuse etc. PRERNA has always made efforts towards their empowerment and making them self-reliant and independent by conducting various issue based and capacity building workshops for e.g., workshops on issues like de addiction, health and hygiene, education and gambling etc. workshop are organized on the issue based.

Police awareness program

Police plays a major role in controlling law and order situation. It is the police on behalf of the state, which comes in contact with a under privilege children. A policeman can help a child who is vulnerable to all kinds of exploitations. Therefore, it becomes of utmost importance that police personnel should know clearly the law of the land. The important legislation, which comes into play especially for street children, is Juvenile Justice Act 2000. a awareness program of police were organized by PRERNA for sensitization of police In future organization is planning to organize interface between Police and Under privilege children, where both the stakeholders can confront each other, share their problems and work on to bridge the gap between them

Health care

Medically qualified personnel were provided for conducting these check-up camps patients with no serious ailments were provided medical treatment on the spot and given medicines. Serious patients were enrolled for continuing with their treatment in some care hospitalization was arranged. We organize health check-up camps like:-

  • M.C.H check up and family planning camps
  • General health check-up camps
  • Tuberculosis Awareness camps
  • Dental check-up camps
  • HIV/AIDS Awareness camps.

Children in need of emergency medical treatment are provided treatment. Besides at some contact points first aid boxes are maintained and for minor cuts, burs, etc. they use the medicine available.

Old age Day care Center

PRERNA Day care center established on 23rd February 2007 at community centre in Gautam Nagar, New Delhi. PRERNA reaches out to the underprivileged elderly through its various services in the areas of financial, health and emotional security

There held medical check up every Sunday. The physician gives advice regarding prevention of diseases and life style modifications to deal with health problems of elder people. Medicines are also provided to the members at free of cost. Members who are patient of asthma, tuberculosis, and blood pressure etc are provided necessary medicines, which require extra expenditure than the routine care.

Vocational training

Vocational training is an integral part of the work that we have been doing in the past. We have now succeeded in strengthening our activities in this field. This is particularly relevant in the context of children who did not have the opportunity to complete their education or pick up skills for making them profitably employed so that are able to stand on their on feet. Vocational training programmes cover a broad range of subjects from computer training, Cutting tailoring, Embroidery, Cooking, Painting, Greeting Card Making, Motor Driving and candle making etc.
