The social workers of the remote village convened a meeting and made the proposal to convert their unorganized approach to social development to a more organized approach. The organisation was officially registered in 1989under the WB Society Registration Act of 1961.

The main activities were centered on relief measures. SIDSA started integrated rural development programs. SIDSA relentlessly pursued its goals working towards better opportunities and living standards for the poor and downtrodden in Sundarban.
