BBC World News and Newsweek in association with Shell have launched the World Challenge 2010 competition to identify and award “projects or small businesses from around the world that have shown enterprise and innovation at a grassroots-level.” The World Challenge is organized annually and it is now in its sixth year. It is currently seeking nominations “for innovative projects or ideas that demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit working for the benefit of the community whilst adopting a responsible approach.”
The winner of the challenge will receive a grant of US $20,000 and the second and their finalist will receive a grant of US $10,000. The grants can be used by the winners for their own use and furtherance of their enterprise only. In addition to this, the winners will also have the opportunity to attend the ceremony to receive the grants. This ceremony will be held in the Netherlands and it will be filmed and telecast on the BBC World News channel.
Nomination rules specify that the innovative projects nominated should demonstrate the innovative use of technology or an invention; the projects should increase investment into the local community; and should take a responsibility approach towards their environment. All projects nominated should fall under any of these categories: community welfare and enterprise; health & education; sustainable farming; energy; water; and environment.
To make the nominations, the nomination form at the World Challenge website has to be completed along with the project description of no more than 250 words and the contact details of the nominated project. Only one entry can be submitted. The deadline to submit nominations is 13 June 2010. For more information, visit this link.

Aim/Objective/Mission: Deep Welfare Organization works to break cycles of violence, hatred and despair by providing psychological, emotional and educational support to the survivors of conflict. Deep Welfare Organization focuses its activities on children and young people, who have the greatest capacity to transcend the conflicts of their communities and to bring about change in the future.
Deep Welfare Organization provides emotional support for victims of violence, hatred and despair within communities. This support is offered thorough the provision of ‘safe havens’. In these safe and supportive environments, those who are most vulnerable can begin to feel comfortable.
When poverty, desperation and despair create conflict often children and young people choose or are forced to leave family and try to make their own way in the world. For many this leads to life on the streets where they face illness, malnutrition, conflict with the law, isolation from society and violence.
Our programmes in NCT Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh & Uttar Pradesh focus on prevention and rehabilitation of street children; working with the local community, families and children to tackle the problems that lead to children going to the street and enabling those already there to find their way back to home and society.
