  1. Dear Sir,

RUCHIKA SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANISATION – RSSO was started 23 years ago by Mrs. Inderjit Khurana, after an in depth study of the poverty & deprivation faced by the under privileged children living in Orissa. She is an educator and a philanthropist who also runs her own school ‘RUCHIKA’.
RSSO was founded by her on the basic premise that, “IF THE CHILD CANNOT COME TO THE SCHOOL, THEN THE SCHOOL MUST GO TO THE CHILD”. The first PLATFORM SCHOOL- a school for children working on and around the Bhubaneswar railway platform was started by her in 1985.
Today, Mrs. Khurana and her team have expanded their social commitments, multifold. You are kindly requested to go through the Annual Report, which is appended for your perusal. You are also requested visit to our website, http://www.ruchika.org for complete details.
The primary purpose in contacting you and your organization, is to appeal to your sense of compassion for improving the conditions of women and children who are living in abject poverty.
We are in need for education, nutrition and health development for the poor slum children. Please give us your priority project area of your organization and kindly let us know if we are eligible for that.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Dear Sir

Shramika Vikasa Kendram has been addressing the issue of child right protection in Mahabubnagar, one of the most drought prone districts of Andhra Pradesh state in Southern India, with focus on elimination of child labour, strengthening school education, strengthening public health institutions and improving health standards in its project area, with support from Child Rights and You (CRY). The organisation works primarily with tribal peoples in remote habitations located deep within inaccessible forests and with migrant population, especially those from socially excluded groups. Notably, Mahabubnagar has the highest incidence of migration anywhere in India, with at least 50-60% of the population known to migrate every year in quest of livelihood opportunities.

Mobilising community on various isues relating to education and health forms the core of the organisational strategy. This effort involves regular visits by the functionaries and the organisational volunteers to the implementation site.. This has proven to be quite difficult owing to lack of affordable transportation facility. In fact, they are forced to spend 2-3 days on the trot in these villages on this count. This has hampered not only community outreach but also effective monitoring of the project to a large extent. Inaccessibility to medical care facilities has also led to maternal and infant deaths in a number of instances.

Against the above background, the availability of a vehicle is imperative for smooth implementation of the existing intervention. However, financial constraints have prevented the organisation from investing in the same. The budgetary provision extended by CRY does not cover this head. We, therefore, request you to consider supporting our efforts by donating a 4-wheeler in line with your organisational guidelines.

We would be greatful if you could depute one of your functionaries to undertake a preliminary visit to our implementation site and interact with our target groups before arriving at any conclusion in the above regard so that you could have a firsthand idea of the situation prevalent here and of the efforts being put in by us to address the above issues.

  35. National Cervical Cancer Advocacy Project (N.C.C.A.P.)

National Cervical Cancer Advocacy Project (N.C.C.A.P) is the dedicated cervical cancer education and advocacy program of SUPERRUNWAY INTERNATIONAL to bring information and awareness on the scourge to the nooks and crannies of the country.

Working in collaboration with other civil society groups, we pursue campaigns to drastically reduce the occurrences of cervical cancer disease amongst Nigerian women by providing effective and efficient cervical health information and resources to all the nooks and crannies of the society.

OUR MISSION: Using an ONLY WOMEN initiative, we shall combat the incidences of cervical cancer in Nigeria by providing effective and efficient cervical health information and resources to all the nooks and crannies of the society.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Cervical cancer kills a woman every hour in Nigeria and this represents 8000 deaths every year. Despite this alarming statistics, less than 1% of Nigerian women have ever had cervical cancer screening.

OUR RESPONSE: This apathy is due to absence of widespread awareness. Our position is that only a cervical cancer literate population will demand for and submit to vaccination, screening or treatment. To this extent, advocacy and awareness is fundamental to curtailing the scourge…and that is what we do.

PROJECT ACTIVITY: Conferring on 20 outstanding Nigerian women with the honor of “THE PRIDE OF WOMEN” as an advocacy tool. Also there will be free screening of 100 women and free distribution of 1,000 Cervical Cancer advocacy handbooks and resources.
    Dete: Thursday 8th December 2011
    Time: 11am prompt
    Venue: Muson Centre, Lagos

    OBJECTIVES:
    1. Raise 1000 women role models & advocates in the next 3 years.
    2. To establish a National Cervical Cancer Advocacy Centre
    3. To draw attention to the menace of cervical cancer

OUR STRATEGY: (a) Utilise our experience, structure and relationship with Nigerian Nollywood industry professionals to produce a television media campaign and publicity documentary and handbook on cervical cancer for secondary, tertiary institutions and female population (b) Use direct contact with the socio-cultural organisations, civil society, professional bodies, businessmen and other stakeholders to approach Nigerian women of substance, and to request them to become cervical cancer advocates and ambassadors. (c) Secure the support and involvement of the Federal governments and that of other states, governmental agencies, non-governmental organisations, corporate organisation, and faith based institutions to achieve widespread participation and awareness.

SUSTAINABILITY: We have reached out to other geo-political zones of the country and are working towards the hosting of similar advocacy and massive awareness campaigns in these other zones. The event would be self sponsoring as our honourees will always contribute towards future events.

CONCLUSION: There is urgency about it, we must act to COMBAT CERVICAL CANCER now and the starting point is by raising awareness without red tapes using entertainment as a tool, especially fashion and modelling to attract the interest of women.

    Introduction
Education provides a solid foundation for people to enhance and strengthen the quality of their lives. All citizens deserve and need opportunities to learn, and grow, not just when they are young, but throughout their lives. Having a variety of excellent learning opportunities is essential for a vibrant, adaptive community.
    Purpose

    • Improve educational access and program completion rates for all students, particularly for those facing economic or cultural barriers or with special needs.
    • The principal objective of the programme is to promote open and democratic societies founded on the rule of law and based on a stable political and economic development. In order to learn from the experiences of the Neighbourhood Programme, it has been decided to carry out an independent evaluation. While activities within the programme fall within four different focus areas, the objective of this evaluation is to assess and document the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of the support given within the specific area of ‘Economic Development’, both at the level of the priority area as a whole and the individual projects.
    • The evaluation is a learning-focused evaluation, which will serve as an input into the ongoing discussions within the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on how best to promote private sector driven economic growth and employment. It should therefore distil key lessons learned regarding the strategies, approaches and methods used in the Neighbourhood Programme.

    • Encourage learners to develop healthy self-esteem including a respectful appreciation of their own and others’ individual, ethnic and cultural identity
    • Advance educational approaches and facilitate access to enhanced literacy for all age groups Disseminate successful program models, and promote innovation in a specific area of learning

    • Contribute to the professional growth of educators and the advancement of innovative approaches to learning
    • Demonstrate collaborative planning, competent financial management and appropriate use of community resources
    Area of Interest: Aboriginal Education
    • Priority will be given to proposals that show innovation, a questioning of the status quo, capacity to transform Aboriginal education, and are targeted to expanding the number, knowledge and skill of Aboriginal educators.
    • It is expected that the initiatives will integrate Aboriginal knowledge systems; ensure meaningful involvement and decision-making of Aboriginal community, Elders, parents, educators and learners; and build capacity through collaboration, connection and partnerships that are sustainable.
    • Educational organizations with a demonstrated commitment and capacity for success in Aboriginal education, particularly in communities or regions with high numbers of Aboriginal students, will be given particular consideration.

    iii. Geographical profile:
Chickballapur Taluk of Chickballapur district is situated in an arid region.

The net area sown in the region varies heavily due to erratic and undeterminable rainfall that always varies. This results in the dry land cultivators being unable to predict rains properly and the sown loosing its germination capacity. The temperature in the taluk varies from a maximum of 38 degrees to a minimum 18 degrees Celsius. Since the taluk is approximately elevated meters above mean sea level.

    iv. Socio-economic and living conditions:

He economic condition of the rural poor in the taluk is such that they are in a position to support their basic needs of their families; the average income of agriculture labour is Rs. 30-40/- per day. The agriculture labour/poor peasants get employment about 150 to 180 days in a year. In a family of five members, the per capita income of a person per day is Rs. 7.90ps. The very basis for illiteracy ignorance, low scholastic level, malnourishment, low birth weight infant mortality, and high mortality rate of adults of rural poor is this economics.

The area is one of the drought prone in the district; the level of ground water is too low and depleting. The forest cover of the area has been destroyed that it could be said that there is no forest.
The main source of income for rural poor is from agriculture and quarry work. The people in the area are so poor that they cannot be considered as consumers. The women are worst sufferers since they have to maintain the household and feed inmates. The people want to get out of the situation but they are short of ideas and resources.

    10. Infrastructure facilities available with the organization:
? Own office building and school
    ? Residential training center

    Food

Imagine seeing your children slowly starving… and having nothing to feed them. For countless destitute families, this is a grim reality. Your gift today will bring lifesaving food to hungry children and their families.
    Housing

For the poorest of the poor, “home” might be little more than a few sticks, mud, and scraps of plastic or metal. Your gift for housing will help provide a family with a safe, basic home and restore their human dignity.
    Water

Clean, safe drinking water is essential for life. In developing countries, access to safe drinking water can be limited, often resulting in serious illnesses and death. Your gift will help provide lifesaving water to those lacking clean drinking water and sanitation.
    Medical Care

In developing countries, hospitals and clinics often lack the most basic equipment and supplies to treat patients. Doctors and nurses often stand by helplessly, unable to administer lifesaving aid. Your gift can help provide items ranging from basic anti-diarrhea medicine to advanced medical equipment.
    Education

Unlike in the United States, education in developing countries is not free. Parents must pay for uniforms, books, school supplies and other necessities. Children too poor to attend school are often sent to work on the streets, and so a lack of education reinforces the vicious cycle of poverty. Your gift for education can help break that cycle and will benefit a child for a lifetime.
    Micro-Enterprise Development

Often, poor families are trapped in poverty because they have no viable means of earning income. What better way to help improve lives than to give a village the means to sustain itself economically? Your gift for a self-sustaining project will have a profound and lasting effect in the lives of those you help.
    11. Human resource development available:
Resource persons to train grassroots level organizers, NGOS, and development works.

    12. Staff:
Skilled and trained staff to work in the villages to promote people’s participation in the implementation of the programs.

In Complete of Bright School Building Construction.
