RE: COMMUNITY BASED CAPACITY BUILDING,TRAINING AWARENESS ON CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND BIOGAS PROJECTS IN KENYA
“Global warming is real; the risks it poses are real; and the African people have a right to know it and a responsibility to do something about it. The parliaments understands that, the sooner we can protect our nation, Continent and our planet–from increased flood, fire, drought, and deadly heat waves.”
Kenya Centre for Environmental Protection and Agro-Aquaculture (KCEPA) is a local Non-Governmental Organization Registered under Section 10 of Non-Government Organization Co-ordination Act of 1990 number OP.218/051/9513/636. It was registered and established on 22nd August 1996.
Our Focal Area: Biodiversity, International Waters, Land Degradation, Climate Change, Climate Change Adaptation and our project types: Demonstration, Capacity Building, Information Dissemination, Networking and Policy Dialogue
KCEPA is an independent research Centre specializing in sustainable development and environmental issues. It works at local, national, regional policy levels. The KCEPA research programs aim to clarify the requirements, strategies and policies for transition to sustainability. These goals are linked to the principles of advocated in Agenda 21 and the conventions such as Climate Change, Ozone Layer protection and Biological Diversity and KYOTO protocol.
Our overall goal is to influence the development of policies and practice relating to climate change. We want to ensure that these take account of the needs of people and places in poverty and disadvantage, so as to ameliorate the impacts of climate change for these vulnerable groups.
KCEPA regularly runs workshops and trainings as part of our capacity building efforts and other national policies on climate change adaptation. KCEPA has contributed to the development of the Community-based Biogas project; Low Cost improved cooking Equipment (JIKO) for Adaptation and Livelihoods.
A decision support tools and projects for use by community project coordinators/managers including schools and homes to climate-proof rural development projects and these projects using local available materials and resources enables project planners and managers to understand the links between local livelihoods and climate; assess a project’s impact on livelihood resources important for climate adaptation; and devise adjustments to improve a project’s impact on these key livelihood resources. We must generate awareness for climate protection.
Since the climate change mitigation is beyond the control of the local governments and local communities, the immediate need was to look at the climate change adaptation in a more pro-active form, and to take actions at local level. This can be done in partnership with development partners.
We have designed a rural based, regional/provincial and national capacity building and trainings on “”climatic change awareness creation and adaptation for improved livelihoods among rural communities an integrated approach to empowering rural communities in Kenya on effects of climate change and adaptations through community based organizations (CBOS); and integrating climate change in policy making and programming for sustainable development””
The programme starts in August 2010 and we are looking for partnership and donor support to conduct the training countrywide in Kenya before proceeding in the whole of Eastern Africa in 2011.
The budget and training schedule is herein attached for your review and direction. You are free to choose the one option to support from the two options provided. Each option has National conference on Strategy policy paper linkage. All feedback and contributions gathered from rural and regional Communities trainings will be discussed at the national conference to formulate National strategy policy on climate change adaptation. Any sizeable contribution from you is highly appreciated.
Kindly support us to help create awareness to the rural communities on the dangers of Global warming and climate change in our country the way the whole world combated and created awareness on HIV AIDS pandemic in the early nineties. Global warming is real and if not addressed at the grassroots it will wipe the entire world from existence. Climate change is no longer a theory; it is an obvious fact we are confronted with every day, and the only way we can prevent it is to take action now.The countrywide training requires a funding of USD 980,000-2.700, 000 for 4 years with sustainability package.
Please consider this letter a submission of request for possible funding and support. The budget is comprehensive and we request that you may recommend to us other partnership organizations we may approach for the support. We have also two proposal projects on Biogas digesters and improved cooking equipment JIKO for 40 MILLION rural communities/Population in Kenya seeking a funding of USD 1,000,000
Best regards,

The impact of climate change will make the poorest communities across the world poorer. Many of them are already affected by conflict and instability and thus face a dual risk. KCEPA research finds that the consequences of climate change will fuel violent conflict, which itself hinders the ability of governments and local communities to adapt to the pressures of climate change.
Saving our planet for future generations presents us with a profound challenge and a tremendous opportunity. But while climate change might feel like a problem too daunting for any one person to solve, I believe that together we can chart a new course for our planet.
I’ve learned over my life in public service that the best solutions often begin with something as simple as a conversation

A son of my friend is suffering from Fibrous Dysplasia in Pakistan for the last couple of years. Since the treatment may entail few surgical procedures, it is imperative that post-operative care is at it best. He is a young of age 20 years. He and his family could not afford expenses for treatment. If some one can inform me for any NGOs who can help him.
Dear Sirs,
Shanthidhama Trust was founded in 2000 with an objective of providing free food, free education and free health/medicines as per Indian traditions to the poor and needy people.
Promoted a free informal school in 2000 on experimental basis under Gurukula system of education in a village called Koteshwara, Udupi Dist. Karnataka State in India for the children between the age group of 5 and 9. (1st standard to 4th standard). The same was run in a small site of 0.11 acre.
In 2010, the Trust with an intention to expand the project upto 7th standard, acquired a land of 4.00 acres and worked out a project with full amenities to setup the school such as building, infrastructures, play ground, garden, farm, teaching materials etc. the cost of which was estimated at Rs. 3.00 crores.
The project is aimed at imparting value based moral education, physical, emotional and spiritual education to transform the child into a perfect genius personality.
Apart from capital cost, the project also requires a revenue and recurring cost of about Rs. 5000 per day. Estimated cost per student is Rs.15000/- per annum, cost per teacher is Rs. 6000/- per month, etc.
The project is already started and about Rs. 45.00 lacs was incurred for the 1st phase of the project. The 2nd phase of working is going on.
The Trust is aimed at total world peace as the name indicates which can be achieved by reformation of education system. We hope our concept of education should be the model for world education.
The Trust anticipates generous contributions from donors, both individuals and organisations to run the unique project successfully.
With regards,
TK Shanbhag
