    Introduction
Education provides a solid foundation for people to enhance and strengthen the quality of their lives. All citizens deserve and need opportunities to learn, and grow, not just when they are young, but throughout their lives. Having a variety of excellent learning opportunities is essential for a vibrant, adaptive community.
    Purpose
The purpose of the Education grants program is to enhance the quality of, and access to, education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

    Goals
    • Support the development and implementation of educational initiatives that: Contribute to excellence in teaching and learning; foster student citizenship and volunteerism; and strengthen school communities through the participation of students, parents, educators, and the community

    • The principal objective of the programme is to promote open and democratic societies founded on the rule of law and based on a stable political and economic development. In order to learn from the experiences of the Neighbourhood Programme, it has been decided to carry out an independent evaluation. While activities within the programme fall within four different focus areas, the objective of this evaluation is to assess and document the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of the support given within the specific area of ‘Economic Development’, both at the level of the priority area as a whole and the individual projects.
    • The evaluation is a learning-focused evaluation, which will serve as an input into the ongoing discussions within the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on how best to promote private sector driven economic growth and employment. It should therefore distil key lessons learned regarding the strategies, approaches and methods used in the Neighbourhood Programme.

    • Encourage learners to develop healthy self-esteem including a respectful appreciation of their own and others’ individual, ethnic and cultural identity
    • Advance educational approaches and facilitate access to enhanced literacy for all age groups Disseminate successful program models, and promote innovation in a specific area of learning

    • Contribute to the professional growth of educators and the advancement of innovative approaches to learning
    • Demonstrate collaborative planning, competent financial management and appropriate use of community resources
    Area of Interest: Aboriginal Education
    • Priority will be given to proposals that show innovation, a questioning of the status quo, capacity to transform Aboriginal education, and are targeted to expanding the number, knowledge and skill of Aboriginal educators.
    • It is expected that the initiatives will integrate Aboriginal knowledge systems; ensure meaningful involvement and decision-making of Aboriginal community, Elders, parents, educators and learners; and build capacity through collaboration, connection and partnerships that are sustainable.
    • Educational organizations with a demonstrated commitment and capacity for success in Aboriginal education, particularly in communities or regions with high numbers of Aboriginal students, will be given particular consideration.

    Food

Imagine seeing your children slowly starving… and having nothing to feed them. For countless destitute families, this is a grim reality. Your gift today will bring lifesaving food to hungry children and their families.
    Housing

For the poorest of the poor, “home” might be little more than a few sticks, mud, and scraps of plastic or metal. Your gift for housing will help provide a family with a safe, basic home and restore their human dignity.
    Water

Clean, safe drinking water is essential for life. In developing countries, access to safe drinking water can be limited, often resulting in serious illnesses and death. Your gift will help provide lifesaving water to those lacking clean drinking water and sanitation.
    Medical Care

In developing countries, hospitals and clinics often lack the most basic equipment and supplies to treat patients. Doctors and nurses often stand by helplessly, unable to administer lifesaving aid. Your gift can help provide items ranging from basic anti-diarrhea medicine to advanced medical equipment.
    Education

Unlike in the United States, education in developing countries is not free. Parents must pay for uniforms, books, school supplies and other necessities. Children too poor to attend school are often sent to work on the streets, and so a lack of education reinforces the vicious cycle of poverty. Your gift for education can help break that cycle and will benefit a child for a lifetime.
    Micro-Enterprise Development

Often, poor families are trapped in poverty because they have no viable means of earning income. What better way to help improve lives than to give a village the means to sustain itself economically? Your gift for a self-sustaining project will have a profound and lasting effect in the lives of those you help.
    11. Human resource development available:
Resource persons to train grassroots level organizers, NGOS, and development works.

    12. Staff:
Skilled and trained staff to work in the villages to promote people’s participation in the implementation of the programs.

In Complete of Bright School Building Construction.

  17. Introduction:
The Children below 6 years of age were not allowed admission into primary school since 1984. “They were provided early child care and Education”, in Anganwadi centres. But, very limited centres were approved in rural chakma areas. There were about 500 families at Tuichawng and more than 500 children attain the age of 4-6 years every year. Only 2 Anganwadi centres were approved in this village. Which can hardly cover 150 children. The remaining 350 children were deprived of early care and education. The capable parents had to educate their children by engaging private tutors at high cost. But, the poor parents, could not do so and being helpless, they engaged their children either in household works or to look after their younger brothers and sisters. The children had to embrace miserable life without education.
In order to provide education to those educationally deprived children, THE ULTIMATE TRUTH PREACHING MISSION” took resolution in its executive meeting held on 15th December 1999 to open a school. Accordingly, “AHIMSA ENGLISH SCHOOL” was established w.e.f. 2nd February 2000. AHIMSA means ‘Nonviolence’ and extend of universal love and compassion. AHIMSA is a school for children of families with low income, living in TUICHAWNG and the school covers 11 minority chakma tribal villages namely Tuichawng-I, Tuichawng-II, Sibinasora, Borkol, Tuichhuah, Diblibagh, Matrisora, Samuksury, Ugudasury,Tuikawi and Kauchhuah. The main Founder,Rajesh Kumar Chakma is a teacher and firmly believes that education is the birth right of every child and no child –rich or poor should not be left behind.
At the beginning, the school was started in a temporary hut with bamboo structure with only 20 children and one teacher in the compound of SHANTI NIKETAN BOUDDHA VIHARA, Tuichawng, Lunglei District,Mizoram,India. The teacher worked very interestedly with dedicated spirit and remarkable progress of the children was observed within six months. So, most parents were attracted and came forward to work for the further development of the school.

    Structure of the School:
    Land:
Being satisfied the “SHANTI NIKETAN BOUDDHA VIHARA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE”, donated a plot of land to the school with an area of 60’x80’ sq.ft. within it compound.

    Building:
The school building was re-constructed in the same year with the size of 15’x42’ sq.ft. with kacca structure. The parents contributed the necessary materials. They also gave voluntary services to construct the school building. Unfortunately the building was destroyed by cyclone in 2009. Since then the school has been running in a rented house.
    Furniture:
The villagers contributed 10 benches 10 desks 4 chairs 3 tables to the school.
    Fund Raising:
The following were the main sources of fund raising :
    1. Monthly subscription from 15 executive members of the ULTIMATE TRUTH PREACHING MISSION.
    2. A lumpsump amount donated every year by 5 donor members.
    3. Musti Bhikkha ( Hand ful of rice) collected from every buddhist families once a month.
    4. Admission fee & monthly fee from the children.

    Enrolment:
The enrolment was increased upto 45 in kg-I and kg-II in 2001. Since then, promotion to next higher class was given every year. Enrolment also went on increasing. In 2005, the school was extended upto class-iv. Now, the total enrolment of the school is 64.

    Teaching staffs:
At the beginning only one teacher was engaged. One more teacher was engaged in 2001. Three teachers were engaged from 2003. Now, the three teachers and one peon working in the school.

    Conclusion :
Further development of the school is very necessary to develop the minority chakma community of Tuichawng with 11 other remote villages.
