About the organization
SPREDA is a professional organization working towards people-based integrated development in urban and rural areas. It focuses on development through participatory approaches that
ultimately enable the people guide and control their own development process. Hence, our efforts are directed towards helping people take initiatives for sustainable development. It was established in 1997 under Societies Registration Act, 1860. SPREDA has its head office in Lucknow and three project offices in Kanpur Dehat, Jaunpur and Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow.

Team
Our team comprises of a core group of professionals having expertise in
different fields i.e small business promotion, livelihoods, enterprise
education and management, research & studies, monitoring, evaluation,
women empowerment & gender, education, information technology etc.
We also have a panel of consultants having rich and diverse experience as
well as resource persons from different organizations. Our consultants have been involved in carrying out a number of research studies, assessments, apart from various training and capacity building
programmes.
Activities Undertaken
SPREDA mainly works towards awareness generation, gender sensitization, social empowerment and bringing attitudinal changes through its specialized intervention catering to various target groups, particularly, women. The main activities undertaken by the organization so far are as:
=Development of Bio-pesticides through SHGs in Kanpur under Rural Innovation Fund (RIF) with the support of NABARD.
=Socio-economic Survey of villages with the support of Government
polytechnics.
=Training for women of weaker sections on Chikankari, Zardoji
embroidery and handicraft.
=Formation of women self-help groups (
SHGs) and their capacity building.
=Providing vocational skills to unemployed youth and women SHGs.
=Extending Business Development Services to small and micro
entrepreneurs as well as Women SHGs to market their products.
=Enterprise Education programmes for school children
=A
wareness programmes on water and sanitation (Social mobilization and awareness).
=Skill Training programmes on Low Cost Sanitation Technologies.

=End-line evaluation of a Community Health Programme, Supported
by Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
=Capability Assessment of SHGs under Hariyana Community Forestry Project, supported by European Commission.
=Capability Assessment of CSO facilitators in PACS programme supported by DFID, UK.
=Socio-Economic Profiling of Physically Challenged Persons for NTPC,
Rihandnagar.
=Mid-Term Evaluation of AGIVIKA Project, funded by European
Commission, KKS, Germany & Shramik Bharati, Kanpur.

Training & Production Centre In 2006-07 SPREDA has initiated the process of setting up vocational training
and production centre for women. Recently, it has provided training to such a group of women for preparing handbags, office bags of different designs & fabric. Marketing linkages were also explored. As a result, after three weeks’ training, these women, under the guidance of designer, produced large quantity of handbags on demand of a development professional company DHG India (P) Ltd, Lucknow for their trainees under a Unicef supported
project.
Future Plans & Assignment
Developing Chikan Cluster with KVIC
SPREDA has been recommended by State government to Government of India and Khadi Village & Industries Commission (KVIC) as implementing agency for developing chikan cluster in all the blocks of Lucknow district under SFURTI scheme of KVIC & GoI.
Marketing Network
Realizing the need, SPREDA is planning to develop a marketing network,
which shall bring forth small & micro entrepreneurs, artisans, women Self
Help Groups, and help them market their products through exhibitions and
trade fairs etc.
Documentation & Research
SPREDA is also planning to develop a resource center for documentation and
research on women and the related issues. In future, it aims to provide a
congenial forum where all those interested in such issues can meet and
discuss matters of common concern. It also plans to maintain a databank for
providing consultancy and information on education, self employment,
environment etc.
Libraries & ICT Kiosks
Setting up Libraries & ICT Kiosks, especially in the areas where standard
institution facilities are lacking is in SPREDA’s future plans. Libraries in rural areas will also help in inculcating reading habits among community.
