The present secretary Mr. Ravindra Sharma who hails from the operational area of the organization having observed the growing menace of extremist violence in the area while he was still student in the University in the early 80s. At that time counter revenge among the extremist had already started and the situation was worsening day by day. He got the opportunity to interact with the prominent Gandhian and Sarvodaya leaders and was taken aback with the Gandhian ideologies and he started attending the meetings and seminars at the institute of Gandhi Nidhi at Patna to find the solution of the problems being faced by the society for the place he belonged based on the Gandhian philosophy and ideology.

He obtained new insight from the prominent leaders and visualized the solution for solving the problems existing in the area. After regular interaction and consultation with these leaders he came to a logical conclusion that lack of employment opportunities and low agricultural return are the basic triggering factors behind the social violence.

He had been advised to start some constructive activities based on the Gandhian ideology and followed which he had the consensus from the prominent persons of the area to register a voluntary organization in the name of the Sita Devi, a prominent social activist of the area who had lead the movement for the cause of poor and underprivileged people in particular the downtrodden of the area. Under the above background the Sita Gramoudyog Vikas Sansthan (SGVS) was registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 on the 6th Dec. 1991 with the vision and mission mentioned above.

Seeta Gramoudyog Vikas Sansthan (SGVS) is a people’s organization dedicated for the services of the people and was established during the month of December 1991 having its working area in one of the worst Naxal affected zones of central Bihar, which is widely characterized as the most backward and inaccessible area which has witnessed series of massacres and killings during numerous conflicts between the Naxal groups spread over in the last three decades.

Presently the SGVS has its intensive intervention at Kaler and Arwal blocks of newly created district of Arwal, which was earlier part of the district of Jehanabad and it also works in three other districts namely Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Bhojpur. These areas have been identified as the worst Naxal Zones at the National Map. Failure of state machinery is quite evident in the area as these different Naxal outfits have their parallel governance system denying all the constitutional provisions.
Mass migration and re – colonization of communities has badly affected the social fabric of the area. Provisions and access to basic means of existence and employment opportunities in the area has been identified as the real felt need of the people of the area.

Considering the above felt need SGVS has registered itself under Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai to extend the outreach of the services and generating employment opportunities to the people of the area. Awareness building, facilitating the formation of the community based organizations for empowerment and enabling them to establish linkages with different resource institutions and stakeholders in development has been adopted as the basic strategy of the organization.

Sharing of information particularly with the most underprivileged section of the society to empower and enable them to franchise their duties and to have their access to resources and services and actualization of their rights through organizing them at community level is the main thrust of the organizational activities

o. Operational Area:

Sita Gramoudyog Vikas Sansthan works extensively in 4 districts namely Jehanabad (one block), Arwal (3 blocks), Aurangabad (one block) and Bhojpur (one block) in the state of Bihar, India.

P. Target Group:

1. Poor women from the most deprived section of the society.
2. Adolescent Girls.
